Odile Eisenstein is a brilliant French scientist. She is a theoretical chemist. This means she uses computers and math to understand how chemicals work. She studies special types of metals. These are called transition metals and lanthanides. She looks at how they are built and how they react.

She is now a professor at the University of Oslo. She also works at the Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier. In 2013, she made history. She became the first woman elected to the French Academy of Sciences. This is a very important group of top scientists. In 2018, she received a high honor. It was called the «insignes d'officier dans l’ordre de la Légion d'honneur». This award was given to her in Paris.

Education and Early Career

Odile Eisenstein studied chemistry at the University of Paris-Sud. In 1977, she earned her Ph.D. A Ph.D. is a very advanced university degree. It shows you are an expert in your field.

After her Ph.D., she worked with other famous scientists. She did research at ETH Zurich and Cornell University. During this time, she studied how metals bond with other chemicals. In 1982, she started her own research career. This was at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
