How Off the Grid Started
A person named Matt Cohen owns and runs Off the Grid. He got the idea for these mobile food events while teaching in Japan. In Japan, he saw street vendors driving around. They would cook and serve food right from the back of their vehicles.
The very first Off the Grid event happened on June 25, 2010. It was at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. This first event had live music and vendors selling Latin and Asian food.
Growth and Variety
In 2010, Off the Grid opened three markets. By 2011, they had nine more! Today, there are 15 markets running every week. More than 200 different food sellers take part in Off the Grid events.
Each market offers many different kinds of food. Off the Grid changes the food sellers often, so every event is unique. You can find a wide range of international foods. This includes American, South American, Taiwanese, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, and Mediterranean dishes.
