History of Ogden

Ogden has faced some tough times, especially with tornadoes. In March 1976, a tornado caused a lot of damage in the downtown area. Another very strong tornado hit Ogden on April 19, 1996. This tornado had winds of about 170 miles per hour. It destroyed 80 homes and badly damaged over 200 others. Luckily, only 13 people had minor injuries.

After the 1996 tornado, the community worked together to rebuild. Government groups, nearby towns, and many volunteers helped Ogden recover. The village showed how strong and caring its residents are.

The Kickapoo Rail Trail (KRT) goes through Ogden. This trail is a path for walking and biking. When it's finished, it will connect Urbana all the way to Danville.

In 2022, people in Ogden started a volunteer group called Onward Ogden. This group helps organize many events in the village. They also run an Ogden Open Air Market every Thursday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The group helps keep the village's parks and playgrounds nice. Students in the area have even made birdhouses that are hung around the village.
