Oglodak Island (Russian: Оглодак остров) is a small, uninhabited island located in Alaska, a state in the United States. It's part of the Aleutian Islands, a long chain of islands that stretch out into the Pacific Ocean. This island is found in the Aleutians West Census Area, which covers most of this island chain.
Oglodak Island is quite small, about 1.5 square miles (3.5 square kilometers) in size. To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of 900 football fields! It is about 1.19 miles (1.92 kilometers) long and 2.3 miles (3.7 kilometers) wide.
Where is Oglodak Island?
Oglodak Island is located in the Andreanof Islands group, which is part of the larger Aleutian Islands chain. These islands are in the Bering Sea, a very cold and often stormy body of water. The Aleutian Islands form an arc that separates the Bering Sea from the main Pacific Ocean.
Part of the Aleutian Chain
The Aleutian Islands are a chain of 14 large volcanic islands and 55 smaller islands. They stretch for about 1,200 miles (1,900 kilometers) westward from the Alaska Peninsula. Most of these islands are part of Alaska, but some are closer to Russia.
Uninhabited Island
As of 2008, Oglodak Island has no people living on it. Many of the smaller islands in the Aleutian chain are also uninhabited. This means they are wild places, often home to unique plants and animals that thrive without human disturbance.
