Okete is a small place located in Lincoln County, in the state of Missouri in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes or buildings that does not have its own official local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it is managed as part of the larger county.
History of Okete
Okete once had its very own post office! This post office first opened its doors in 1887. It was a place where people living in and around Okete could send and receive their mail. The name "Okete" was actually suggested by the postal officials who set up the office. However, the post office did not stay open forever. It closed down in 1907, after serving the community for about 20 years.
