Olèrdola (pronounced oo-LER-doo-lah) is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Catalonia, Spain. It's part of a region known as the Alt Penedès. This area is found on the northern side of the Garraf massif, which is a large mountain range. The highest point in Olèrdola is a peak called Puig de l'Àliga, standing tall at 468 meters (about 1,535 feet).
Olèrdola is famous for its ancient castle. This castle was very important during the Early Middle Ages because it controlled a wide area called the Penedès Depression. For a while, a powerful leader named Mir Geribert, who called himself the "Prince of Olèrdola," ruled from this castle. However, after the 1100s, the castle's importance faded. A nearby town, Vilafranca del Penedès, took over its administrative role.
People have lived in the Olèrdola area for a very long time, even since the Neolithic period (the New Stone Age). You can still see amazing ancient remains here. There are ruins from the Iberic people and the Romans right next to the old castle. One special Roman building is the unusual, round Roman chapel of the Sant Sepulcre, located near La Plana Rodona.
