Ola is a small, unincorporated community located in Kaufman County, in the U.S. state of Texas. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it does not have its own local government like a city or town. According to the Handbook of Texas, about 50 people lived in Ola in the year 2000. It is part of the larger Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area.
History of Ola
The area where Ola is located today was first settled in the late 1800s. A post office was opened in Ola in 1892. This post office helped people send and receive mail until it closed in 1911.
In 1896, there were several businesses operating in Ola. The population of the community was 72 people in 1900. It then dropped to 30 people by 1910. However, the population returned to 72 people from 1930 until the mid-1960s.
Between 1930 and 1940, there were two businesses in Ola. By 1945, only one business remained. After that, there were no businesses left. The population of Ola was 50 people from 1970 through 2000.
Where is Ola Located?
Ola is found on Texas State Highway 243. It is about 7 miles (11 km) east of Kaufman. Ola is also about 21 miles (34 km) west of Canton. It is located in the east-central part of Kaufman County.
