Why is it Called Old Airport Road?
The name "Old Airport Road" gives us a big clue about its past! This road used to be the eastern edge of the old Kallang Airport. Kallang Airport was super important because it was the very first airport built specifically for civil flights in Singapore. Imagine, before this, planes landed in different places!
From Airport to Homes
After Kallang Airport closed down, the land around Old Airport Road changed a lot. It was redeveloped into a busy neighbourhood filled with homes. Today, this area is known as the "Old Kallang Airport Estate." The road itself was also made longer. It used to stop near the Geylang River but was later extended to connect with Dunman Road.
