The Old Chicago Main Post Office Twin Towers was a very tall building that was planned but never built. It was going to be part of a bigger project in the Chicago Loop area of Chicago, Illinois. These twin towers were designed to have 120 floors and reach a height of 2,000 feet (610 m). If they had been built, they would have been the tallest building in the United States.

What Were the Twin Towers?
In 2009, a developer from Britain named Bill Davies bought the Old Chicago Main Post Office building for $24 million. In 2011, he bought another piece of land next to it.
Plans for the Supertall Towers
On July 21, 2011, Bill Davies announced his big plans for the Twin Towers. These towers were meant to be part of a larger project to fix up the Old Chicago Main Post Office area. The plans were officially filed by his company, International Property Developers.
A similar plan for a 2,000-foot (610 m) building called the Chicago Spire had stopped earlier. This was because of a tough economic time known as the Great Recession. However, the plan for the Twin Towers was approved on July 18, 2013.
Who Designed the Towers?
Joseph Antunovich was the architect for the project. An architect is someone who designs buildings. The 2,000-foot (610 m) building was planned to be the second part of a three-phase project. If it had been built, it would have been the tallest building in North America.
The building was also designed to hold antennas for communication, which would make money. It was also going to have shops, a hotel, and homes for people to live in. This is called a "mixed-use" building.
Concerns About the Project
Some people had worries about the planned towers. One concern was how close they would be to the Willis Tower (which used to be called the Sears Tower). For example, some thought that people living in the new towers might be too close to the antennas on top of the Willis Tower.
There was also a claim that the air moving around the two very tall buildings could create a strong pull, like a vacuum.
Why the Project Was Canceled
In October 2014, the partnership Bill Davies had with another company, Sterling Bay, ended. Then, in December 2014, Bill Davies canceled the entire project. He decided to put the Old Main Post Office building up for sale instead.
