How the Courthouse Came to Be
The city of Santa Ana was started in 1869 by a person named William Spurgeon. He bought a large piece of land for the city. Later, in 1889, Orange County, California, was officially created. William Spurgeon and James McFadden helped make this happen. Santa Ana was chosen to be the main city, or "county seat," for the new county. This was because Santa Ana was growing much faster than other nearby towns, like Orange.
From Courtroom to Museum
Today, the Old Orange County Courthouse is no longer used for court cases. Instead, it has become a museum! It's a popular spot and has even been used as a filming location for movies and TV shows. For example, in 1949, parts of the movie The File on Thelma Jordan were filmed both inside and outside the courthouse.
