The Old Parish Church, also known as Muckle Kirk, is a very old and important building in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is located on Maiden Street. This church is so special that it's listed as a Category A listed building, which means it's a building of national importance.
Local brothers Robert and John Mitchell built the church between 1804 and 1806. They followed a design by Alexander Laing from Edinburgh. One of its most interesting features is its Burgerhuys bell, which is incredibly old, dating all the way back to 1647!
The church closed its doors in 2016. Its members then joined with Peterhead's Trinity Church. Together, they formed a new church called Peterhead New Parish Church.

Explore the Old Parish Church's History
The Old Parish Church has stood for over 200 years. It was built at the start of the 19th century. The Mitchell brothers, who were from the area, were the builders. They worked from a design by Alexander Laing, a famous architect. This church was an important place for the community for many years.
A Special Bell from the Past
One of the most unique parts of the Old Parish Church is its bell. This bell is called a Burgerhuys bell. It was made in 1647, which makes it much older than the church itself! Imagine how many times that bell rang over the centuries. It has seen a lot of history.
What Happened to the Church?
After many years of serving the community, the Old Parish Church closed in 2016. The people who went to this church decided to join another local church. They merged with Peterhead's Trinity Church. This created a new, larger church called Peterhead New Parish Church. Even though it's closed, the Old Parish Church building remains an important landmark.
