The Old St Boniface Church in Bonchurch, Isle of Wight, is a very old church that belongs to the Church of England. It's a special place with a lot of history.

A Look at the Church's History

This church has been around for a long time! The main parts, called the nave and chancel, were built way back in the 11th century. That's over 900 years ago! The bell tower, which holds the church bell, was added in the 16th century. Later, in the 1800s, a porch was built on the south side of the church.

Why a New Church Was Built

In 1848, a new church, also called St Boniface Church, Bonchurch, was built nearby. People thought about tearing down the old church, but luckily, it was saved!

Services at the Old Church Today

Even though there's a newer church, the Old St Boniface Church is still used for special events. In the summer, you can attend evening services lit by candles. There's also a Christmas Carol service and a special service on June 5th, which is the feast day for St Boniface, the church's patron saint.
