Olga, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Olga is a small, quiet place located in the southwest corner of Webster County, in the beautiful Ozarks region of southern Missouri. It's what's called an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and buildings that don't have their own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger county. You can find Olga near Missouri Route Z, and a stream called Finley Creek flows just north of the community. It's about five miles northwest of another small place called Dogwood.

The Story of Olga's Name

The community of Olga got its name a long time ago, back in 1890. That's when a post office was first opened there. The person who was in charge of the post office, known as the postmaster, decided to name the new community after his wife, whose name was Olga. The post office served the local people for about 11 years before it closed down in 1901. Even though the post office is no longer there, the name "Olga" continues to be used for this small part of Missouri.
