Olga Holtz (born August 19, 1973) is a Russian mathematician. She is an expert in numerical analysis, which is a type of math that uses computers to solve complex problems. Olga Holtz has won several important awards for her work. These include the Sofia Kovalevskaya Award in 2006 and the European Mathematical Society Prize in 2008. Since 2008, she has been a member of the Young Academy (Junge Akademie) in Germany. This is a group for talented young scientists.

Early Life and Education
Olga Holtz's parents were both computer programmers. They helped her develop a love for mathematics from a young age. When she was 15, she was chosen to attend a special high school. This school focused on mathematics. She finished her studies there two years later.
After high school, Olga went to college. She studied at the South Ural State University in Chelyabinsk. Then, she attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the United States. She earned her Ph.D. there in 2000. After getting her doctorate, she stayed at the university for two more years. She worked as a researcher in a special post-doctoral position.
Moving to Germany and Back
In 2002, Olga Holtz moved to Germany. She spent about a year and a half there. She had a special research fellowship from the Humboldt Foundation. She worked at the Institute of Mathematics at Technische Universität Berlin.
In 2004, she returned to the United States. She became an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. She taught mathematics there until 2007.

Sofia Kovalevskaya Award
In 2006, Olga Holtz won the Sofia Kovalevskaya Award. This award came with €1,000,000 (about 1.1 million US dollars). This money helped her create her own research group. She set up this group at Technische Universität Berlin in Germany.
Professor and Other Honors
After winning the award, she became a Professor of applied mathematics at Technische Universität Berlin. At the same time, she also worked as a Professor of Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley.
In 2008, the European Mathematical Society gave her their prize. This was another big honor. In August 2010, the European Research Council gave her an €880,000 (about 970,000 US dollars) Starting Grant. This grant helped her continue her important research.
In 2015, she was chosen as a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. This honor recognized her important contributions. She was praised for her work in areas like numerical linear algebra and theoretical computer science.
Hobbies and Interests
Before deciding to become a mathematician, Olga Holtz thought about a career in music. She still enjoys music today. She performs with the Berlin Philharmonic Choir. She also enjoys practicing ballroom dancing.
