Military Adventures

Oliver Lambart was a soldier who fought in many battles. He was part of the war between England and Spain.

Fighting in the Netherlands

Lambart fought alongside his commander, Francis Vere, in the Netherlands. During the attack on Steenwijk in 1592, he was wounded. This battle led to the capture of the city.

The Capture of Cádiz

In 1596, Lambart took part in a major attack on the Spanish city of Cádiz. English forces, led by Robert Devereux and Lord Howard, captured the city's harbor. The Spanish sank their own ships to prevent them from being captured. Lambart was honored for his bravery during this event. He was made a knight, which meant he could be called "Sir Oliver Lambart."

Service in Ireland

Later, Sir Oliver Lambart served in the Nine Years' War (1594–1603) in Ireland. He commanded 200 foot soldiers at Enniscorthy in County Wexford. This war was a big conflict in Ireland at the time.

Recapturing Dunyvaig Castle

In 1615, Sir Oliver Lambart helped take back Dunyvaig Castle on the island of Islay. He worked with Sir John Campbell of Calder to achieve this victory.

Shortly before he passed away, Oliver Lambart was given a special title. He became the 1st Lord Lambart, Baron of Cavan. This made him a member of the nobility. He was also a Privy Counsellor in Ireland, which meant he was a trusted advisor to the King.

Oliver Lambart had a son named Charles Lambart, 1st Earl of Cavan. Charles also became an important figure later on.
