Olivier Zacharie Hanlan, born on February 15, 1993, is a professional basketball player from Canada. He plays for Türk Telekom in Turkey's top basketball league, the Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Boston College Eagles. He was a standout player, being the first from Boston College in a long time to win the "Rookie of the Year" award for his conference.

High School Basketball Years

Olivier went to New Hampton School in New Hampshire for his last two years of high school. During his senior year, he was recognized as one of the best players. He earned a spot on the first team All-NEPSAC AAA team.

College Basketball Career

Freshman Season Highlights (2012–2013)

As a freshman at Boston College, Olivier Hanlan started every one of his team's 33 games. He was part of a young team with many new players. In his first year, he scored about 15.4 points per game. He helped his team reach the quarterfinals in the 2013 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament.

Olivier had a great game on November 21, 2012, against Auburn. He scored 19 points and made the winning shot, leading the Eagles to a 50–49 victory. After that, he played very consistently. He scored 17 points against Miami, 22 against UNC, and 20 against Duke.

From mid-February until the end of the season, Olivier scored at least 12 points in every game. On February 19, 2013, he scored a career-high 26 points against Maryland. The Eagles won that game 69–58. Later, on March 14, 2013, Olivier set a new record for freshmen in the ACC tournament. He scored an amazing 41 points against Georgia Tech, helping his team win 84–64. Because of his excellent performance, Olivier won the ACC Rookie of the Year award.

Professional Basketball Journey

NBA Draft Selection

On June 25, 2015, Olivier Hanlan was chosen by the Utah Jazz in the 2015 NBA draft. He was the 42nd player picked overall. After the draft, he played for the Jazz in the 2015 NBA Summer League. There, he averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in eight games.

Playing in Europe and the G League

Olivier began his professional career in Europe. On August 8, 2015, he signed a one-year contract with Žalgiris Kaunas, a strong team in Lithuania. The next year, on August 2, 2016, he joined Le Mans Sarthe Basket in France.

In November 2017, Olivier moved to the United States to play for the Austin Spurs in the NBA G League. The San Antonio Spurs (who had his draft rights) signed him briefly in September 2018, but he was waived before the season started.

He then returned to Europe, signing with Telekom Baskets Bonn in Germany on November 27, 2018.

Playing in Canada and Greece

On July 16, 2020, Olivier joined the Ottawa BlackJacks in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. He played eight games, averaging 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

He also played for Iraklis Thessaloniki in the Greek Basket League from 2019 to 2021. He had a great first season, averaging 16.3 points per game. He was even named one of the team captains in his second season.

On August 7, 2021, Olivier signed with another Greek team, Aris Thessaloniki. He was also a team captain there. In 15 games, he averaged a career-high 20.8 points, showing his scoring ability.

Recent Teams and Achievements

Olivier's strong play in Greece caught the eye of many European clubs. On April 5, 2022, he signed with Valencia in Spain, a team that competes in the EuroCup. He played 11 league games for them.

Later, on November 8, 2022, he signed with Gaziantep Basketbol in Turkey. On July 28, 2023, he joined Openjobmetis Varese in Italy.

In 2024, Olivier played for CSKA Moscow in the VTB United League, where he helped his team become champions. As of July 3, 2024, he is playing for Türk Telekom in Turkey.

Playing for Team Canada

Olivier Hanlan has also represented his home country, Canada, in international basketball.

Youth National Team

He was part of the Canadian Under-17 national team. This team won a bronze medal (third place) at the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Cup in Germany. In the bronze medal game against Lithuania, Olivier led his team in scoring with 15 points. He also had 4 assists and 5 rebounds. He later played for the Canadian Under-19 national team at the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Latvia.

Senior National Team

In August 2017, Olivier was a member of the Canadian Senior Men's National Team. They competed in the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup. Olivier scored a team-high 10 points in a game against the U.S. Virgin Islands. In November 2017, he also played for the Senior Men's National Team in the qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
