Olle Henrik Martin Anderberg was a famous Swedish wrestler. He was born on September 13, 1919, and passed away on September 26, 2003. Olle was an amazing athlete who competed in the Olympic Games and won many medals. He also won several world and European titles.

Olle Anderberg: A Wrestling Star

Olle Anderberg was a true champion in the sport of wrestling. He competed in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling styles. His career spanned many years, from 1942 to 1962. During this time, he won an incredible 27 national titles in Sweden.

Early Life and Family

Olle was born in Asmundtorp, Sweden. His family was very sporty! His father, Frans, and brother, Gunnar, were both talented football players. They even played in Sweden's top football league. Olle tried football too, but he found his true calling in wrestling.

Olympic Success

Olle Anderberg represented Sweden in three different Summer Olympics. He competed in the 1948, 1952, and 1956 Games.

At the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, he won a silver medal. This was in the Greco-Roman featherweight category.

Four years later, at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Olle achieved his dream. He won a gold medal in the freestyle lightweight category! This was a huge moment in his career.

World and European Champion

Besides his Olympic medals, Olle was also a dominant force in world wrestling. He won three gold medals at the World Wrestling Championships.

  • In 1950, he won gold in Greco-Roman wrestling (62 kg).
  • In 1951, he won gold in freestyle wrestling (67 kg).
  • In 1953, he won another gold in Greco-Roman wrestling (62 kg).

He also earned a silver medal at the 1954 World Championships.

Olle also had great success at the European Wrestling Championships. He won two gold medals:

  • In 1947, he won gold in Greco-Roman wrestling (62 kg).
  • In 1949, he won gold in freestyle wrestling (62 kg).

He also took home a silver medal from the 1946 European Championships.

A Coach for Champions

After his amazing career as a wrestler, Olle Anderberg became a coach. He helped train national wrestling teams in other countries. He worked with teams from Finland, Turkey, and Iran between 1957 and 1960. He was even known by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was the Shah of Iran at the time. Olle's knowledge and experience helped many other wrestlers succeed.
