Amazing Buildings and Churches
The main square in Ollolai was built in the early 1900s. They made it by changing the path of a stream that used to flow through the area.
Inside this square, you will find a church dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel. This church has beautiful paintings by Carmelo Floris and a special crucifix painted by Franco Bussu, who is from Ollolai. The oldest part of this church is a small chapel for St. Bartholomew.
Close to the town centre, there is another church for Anthony of Padua. Here, people celebrate the Feast of Saint Anthony every year. A big bonfire is traditionally lit during this celebration.
A few kilometres outside the village, towards the valley, you can find a church dedicated to Saint Peter. This church was rebuilt in the 1970s. It replaced an older Romanesque church that was taken down.
In a valley surrounded by tall granite mountains, there is a church for Basil of Caesarea. Monks called Basilians first built this church. Later, after the Basilians left, Franciscan monks used it. A building next to the church, which was a convent, was built later.
Wonderful Water Sources
Ollolai has many natural water sources. The most famous one is Gupunnio. Its source is right in the middle of the village. It was recently given a new name, Regina Fontium, which means "Queen of Fountains".
Another well-known water source is the fountain of Su Sapunadorju. A few hundred metres from the town, you'll find Su Puthu. This place was once used as a watering hole for animals.
