Olympe Audouard (born March 13, 1832 – died January 12, 1890) was an important French woman who believed in equal rights for women. She strongly felt that women should have the same opportunities as men. This included the right to vote and even to run for public office.

Her Early Life

Olympe Audouard was born in Marseille, France. Her full name was Félicité-Olympe de Jouval. When she was 18, on April 11, 1850, she married a lawyer named Henri-Alexis Audouard.

Fighting for Women's Rights

Olympe Audouard was a strong voice for women's equality. She believed women should have the same rights as men in all parts of life. This included political rights, like being able to vote and be elected to government positions. At the time, these rights were usually only for men.

She also spoke out about other important issues. For example, she separated from her husband in 1858. However, divorce was not allowed in France until 1884. This meant she could not legally end her marriage until the "Naquet law" was passed in 1884. She finally got divorced in 1885. Her own experiences likely made her even more determined to fight for changes that would help women.

Olympe Audouard wrote books and articles to share her ideas. She traveled and gave speeches, always pushing for a world where women had full equality. She was a brave and determined woman who helped pave the way for future generations.
