Team History: The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights
In 2005, the Calgary Flames, a team from the National Hockey League (NHL), decided to bring back their minor league team. This team, which used to be the Saint John Flames, was re-established in Omaha.
The name Ak-Sar-Ben comes from a special group in Omaha called the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben. This group's logo was even part of the hockey team's own logo. It's interesting because "Ak-Sar-Ben" is actually "Nebraska" spelled backwards! There was also an older hockey team in Omaha called the Omaha Knights, and they played in an arena also named Ak-Sar-Ben. The team's logo looked very similar to the Calgary Flames' logo, showing they were connected.
After two seasons, there were talks that the team might move. This was because not enough people were coming to watch the games. On May 24, 2007, the Calgary Flames announced that their team would indeed move to the Quad Cities.
