Lake Omina is a freshwater lake in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the large Gouin Reservoir. You can find it in the northeastern part of the reservoir. The lake is located in the area of La Tuque, a town in the Mauricie region. It stretches across several smaller areas called townships, including Mathieu and Verreau.
Fun and Travel
People love to visit Lake Omina for fun activities. Tourism is very important here. The lake is great for boating and exploring. It's easy to get to because it's close to Route 212. This road connects the village of Obedjiwan to the eastern side of the Gouin Reservoir.
The lake is also located between Obedjiwan village and Verreau Stream. This makes it a good spot for travel and adventures. Other smaller roads have been built nearby. These roads help with logging and getting to fun outdoor spots.
Lake Conditions
Lake Omina usually freezes over in the middle of November. It stays frozen until the end of April. However, it's safest to walk or play on the ice from early December to late March.
The water level in the lake can change a lot. This happens because of how water is managed at the Gouin dam. For example, the water level is often lowered in late winter. This prepares the lake for the spring melt when lots of snow turns into water.
Naming the Lake
The name "Lac Omina" was officially given on December 18, 1986. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This group is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
