One Campus Martius is a tall building in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It was built between 2000 and 2003. This building has 17 floors in total. Fifteen floors are above the ground, and two are underground. It offers a huge amount of space for offices, shops, and even a fitness center.

The building is designed in a modern style. It uses materials like glass, granite, and limestone. Its design is so good that a group of architects in Detroit named its inside areas as one of the top ten in the city.

Building History: How It Came to Be

This building stands on a spot with a long history. It used to be home to the Kern Department Store. This store was there for many years, starting around 1900. The last store building was taken down in 1966. For a long time, the area was an open green space.

Then, in 1999, Campus Martius Park began to take shape nearby. In 2003, a company called Compuware moved its main offices and about 4,000 employees into the newly built One Campus Martius. Later, in 2010, Quicken Loans also moved its main offices and 1,700 employees into the building. Another company, Plante Moran, joined them in 2013.

Over time, Compuware's presence in the building became smaller. In 2014, the building was sold to new owners. Quicken Loans then took up even more space inside. Today, many different companies have offices here, including Quicken Loans, Microsoft, Meridian Health, Plante Moran, and Compuware.

What's Inside One Campus Martius

The building was finished in 2002. It has 16 floors and a very large amount of space, about 1,088,000 square feet (101,100 m²). Inside, you can find many useful things. There is a daycare center for employees' children. There is also a big fitness center, about 38,000 square feet (3,500 m²) in size.

The building also has 55,000 square feet (5,100 m²) of space for shops. In the main lobby, you can see something very special: a huge indoor water sculpture. People say it is the tallest indoor water sculpture in the world!

One Campus Martius Parking Garage

Right next to the main building is the One Campus Martius Garage. This is a large parking structure with space for 3,000 cars. It is 45 meters tall and has 12 stories, with two of them underground.

The first floor of the garage has over 20,600 square feet (1,910 m²) of space for shops and offices. On the second level, there is a daycare center that is about 2,891-square-foot (269 m²). This parking garage is also home to the Cadillac Center Station. This station is part of the Detroit People Mover train system.
