One Capital Center: A Landmark in Boise
One Capital Center was built by a company called Mountain Bell. When it was completed in 1975, it became the tallest building in both Boise and the entire state of Idaho. It held this record until 1978. Today, it is the third tallest building in Boise.
Famous People and Offices
Many businesses and people have had offices in One Capital Center over the years. One very famous person who had an office there was J. R. Simplot. He was a very successful businessman and a billionaire. His office was on the very top floor of the building. J. R. Simplot lived from 1909 to 2008.
Wildlife Neighbors: Peregrine Falcons
One Capital Center is not just home to businesses and people. It is also a special home for some amazing birds! Since 2009, a pair of peregrine falcons has made their nest on the fourteenth floor of the building.
Watching the Falcons Online
In April 2009, a special webcam was set up near the falcons' nest. This allowed people all over the world to watch them. That year, the falcons were seen incubating four eggs. It was exciting to watch the baby falcons hatch and grow right in the middle of the city! These falcons often return to the same spot each year to raise their young.
