One Kansas City Place is the tallest building in the U.S. state of Missouri. You can find it in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, located between 12th Street, Baltimore Avenue, and Main Street.
This huge skyscraper was built in 1988. It stands about 190 meters (or 623 feet) tall. An architecture firm called Patty Berkebile Nelson & Immenschuh designed it. When it was finished, it became the tallest building in Kansas City, taking that title from the Town Pavilion. The building was designed to look like a modern version of the famous 30-story Kansas City City Hall, which is an older, beautiful Art Deco building nearby.

History of One Kansas City Place
One Kansas City Place was meant to be just one part of a much bigger plan called "Kansas City Place." But the rest of the project was never built. The big plan included homes, more office buildings, and even hotels. This huge project was first suggested in the 1980s when lots of new buildings were being planned. Frank Morgan and his uncle Sherman Dreiseszun came up with the idea. They had also built the Town Pavilion before this.
They planned to build it in an area south of downtown called the South Loop. The project included many skyscrapers for offices, hotels, and homes. Some people say the project wasn't fully built because residents worried it would change Kansas City's skyline. The skyline had looked mostly the same for 30 years.
One Kansas City Place was supposed to be the third-tallest of several towers. However, it is the tallest one that actually got built. Today, it is one of the most famous buildings in Kansas City's skyline.
Special Lighting at Night
At night, the top of One Kansas City Place glows with red, white, and blue lights on all four sides. These colors often change for special events throughout the year.
- For important Kansas City Chiefs games, the lights turn red and yellow.
- For big Kansas City Royals games, they shine blue and white.
- The building glows red for Valentine's Day.
- It turns green for St. Patrick's Day.
- In October, it lights up pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
- For Christmas, you can see red and green lights.
