What is One Yonge Street?
This building was finished in 1970 and opened in 1971. It replaced an older Toronto Star building that was torn down. The old building made way for a new skyscraper called First Canadian Place.
Where is This Building?
One Yonge Street is located at 1 Yonge Street in the Queens Quay area of Toronto. This spot is at the very beginning of Yonge Street. Yonge Street was once thought to be the longest street in the world.
A Look Inside: What Happens Here?
One Yonge Street is a busy place. It is home to the main offices of Torstar, the company that owns the Toronto Star newspaper. Many employees work on the fifth floor to create the newspaper's stories and articles.
Printing the News
For many years, the actual newspapers were printed right inside this building. However, in 1992, a new printing centre opened in Vaughan, Ontario. Now, the finished newspaper content is sent electronically to that centre. There, printing plates are made, and the newspapers are printed and sent out.
Other Businesses and Offices
Besides the Toronto Star, many other companies also rent office space at One Yonge Street. These include Pinnacle International, a government agency called the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, RL Solutions, and Starbucks. You can also find Luminus Financial, a dental office, and a campus for Collège Boréal here.
Who Owns One Yonge Street?
The property where One Yonge Street stands is owned by a company called Pinnacle International.
