Oran is a small place in Iowa, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger Fayette County.

Oran is located in the southwestern part of Fayette County. You can find it southwest of West Union. West Union is the main town (county seat) of Fayette County. Oran is also west of Oelwein, which is the biggest city in the county. Oran sits at an elevation of about 1,043 feet (318 meters) above sea level. Even though it's not a city, Oran has its own post office and a special code called a ZIP code, which is 50664.

A Look Back at Oran's Past

Learning in Oran: The School Story

Oran is part of the Wapsie Valley School District. For many years, the district's junior high school was located right in Oran. It opened its doors in 1961. However, in 1999, the school had to close. This happened because of a low budget, meaning there wasn't enough money to keep it running.
