Orduspor is a Turkish football club. It was started in 1967. The club is in Ordu, Turkey. They play their home games at 19 Eylül Stadium. The team made it to the Turkish Super League in 2011. This is the top football league in Turkey. They were moved down from the top league two years later, in 2013.

History of Orduspor Football Club

In the late 1960s, football was very popular in Ordu. People loved watching matches. At that time, there were two main teams in Ordu: Karadeniz İdman Yurdu and Gençleryurdu. Players from these teams would join together to form the Ordu Mixed squad.

How Orduspor Was Formed

A player named Ali Ataoğlu, also known as Kara Ali, had played for big teams like İstanbulspor. When he came back to Ordu, he started a team called "Spor Yıldızı."

The Ordu Mixed squad, with Kara Ali, played in the 1966 Turkish Junior Championship in Mersin. They played very well and won second place. This impressed Mr. Orhan Şeref Apak, who was the head of the Turkish Football Federation.

Mr. Apak told Kara Ali that he wanted Orduspor to play in the Turkish Second League. To make this happen, several local clubs decided to join forces. These clubs were Ordugücü, Karadeniz İdman Yurdu, Yolaçspor, 19 Eylül, and Ocakspor. They met and agreed to become one club. This is how Orduspor began.

Choosing Colors and Leaders

After much discussion, they chose purple and white as the club colors. A nut was chosen as the team's symbol. The color purple stands for passion, and white means honor.

On March 8, 1967, the first leaders of Orduspor met. İbrahim Köksal became the first president. Ali Ataoğlu could not be president because he worked for the government. This team of leaders started Orduspor's big football journey.

First Steps in the League

On April 8, 1967, there was a huge celebration in Ordu. Important people, including government ministers, came to the city. The streets were decorated in purple and white. At the 19 Eylül Stadium, it was officially announced that Orduspor could play in the Turkish Second League.

The 1967–68 football season started a few months later. Most of the players were young talents from the club's own training system. They didn't buy many new players. İsfendiyar Açıkgöz, a famous player from Galatasaray, became the team's coach. Even though he was 38, he sometimes played for Orduspor in their first professional season.

Orduspor won their first practice game 4–0. Their first official league match was a 2–2 tie against İzmir Ülküspor. In the 1974–75 season, Orduspor became champions. They moved up to the Turkish First Division. After four seasons there, Orduspor reached fourth place. This allowed them to play in the UEFA Cup, a big European competition.

European Adventures and League Changes

In their first UEFA Cup match, Orduspor won against the Czechoslovak team Baník Ostrava. This got them attention in Europe. Sadly, they lost the away match and were out of the Cup.

After one season, Orduspor moved down to the Second Division. But their fans wanted them back in the First Division. After two seasons, the team was promoted again. They stayed for three seasons before moving down again.

Orduspor played in different leagues over the years. From the 2005–06 season, they played in the “Bank Asya 1. Lig”. They hoped to reach the Turkish Super League again. The club's leaders worked to build a strong team and make Orduspor more famous. They also wanted to find and train young players. Their goal was to connect the team with the whole community and become successful both in Turkey and in Europe.

Orduspor's Home Stadium

Orduspor plays its home games at the 19 Eylül Stadium. The stadium is named after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkey. He visited Ordu on September 19.

The stadium is in the middle of the city. It has open and grand stands for fans. Later, more stands were built, increasing the capacity to 15,000 people. Today, after some changes, the stadium can hold 12,000 fans.

Stadium Features

The 19 Eylül Stadium has special areas for important guests and VIPs. It also has stands for disabled fans and a section for visiting team supporters. There are modern medical rooms, a press room, and meeting rooms. All the rooms meet the rules for home and away teams, officials, and referees.

The playing field is natural grass and measures 68 meters by 105 meters. It is known as one of the best fields in the league because it is well-kept and smooth.

Orduspor has leased the 19 Eylül Stadium for 10 years. The club has added advertising boards around the field. These help bring in money from sponsors. The stadium was also updated to host night matches starting from the 2010–2011 season.
