Orduspor is a Turkish football club. It was started in 1967. The club is located in Ordu, Turkey. They play their home games at 19 Eylül Stadium. The team played in the top Turkish league, the Turkish Super League, in 2011. Their last time in the top league was in 2013.

History of Orduspor Football Club

In the 1960s, football was becoming very popular in the city of Ordu. People loved watching matches. At that time, Ordu had two main football teams: Karadeniz İdman Yurdu and Gençleryurdu. Players from these teams would join together to form the Ordu Mixed squad.

How Orduspor Was Formed

A player named Ali Ataoğlu, also known as Kara Ali, helped start a new team called "Spor Yıldızı". He had played for bigger clubs before. In 1966, the Ordu Mixed squad, including Kara Ali, played in the Turkish Junior Championship. They did very well and came in second place.

This success impressed Mr. Orhan Şeref Apak, who was the president of the Turkish Football Federation. He wanted to see a team from Ordu play in the Turkish Second League. So, he asked for a new club to be created.

It was hard to start the club because they didn't have much money. Ali Ataoğlu even took out a loan in his own name to help the team. Leaders from several local clubs decided to join forces. They wanted to create one strong club for Ordu. This is how Orduspor began.

After many talks, they chose purple and white as the club's colors. A nut was chosen as their emblem. Purple stands for passion, and white means honor.

First Steps and Big Success

On March 8, 1967, the first leaders of Orduspor met. İbrahim Köksal became the first president. The team started its journey in football.

On April 8, 1967, there was a big celebration in Ordu. Important government officials and the Football Federation president came. The city was decorated in purple and white. It was officially announced that Orduspor could play in the Turkish Second League.

The 1967–68 football season started a few months later. Most of the players were young talents from the club's own academy. İsfendiyar Açıkgöz, a famous player from Galatasaray, became the team's coach. He even played in some games himself!

Orduspor won their first practice game 4–0. Their first official league match was a 2–2 draw. In the 1974–75 season, Orduspor became champions. They were promoted to the Turkish First Division. After four seasons, they finished fourth in the top league. This allowed them to play in the UEFA Cup, a big European competition.

Playing in Europe and Beyond

In their first UEFA Cup match, Orduspor beat a team from Czechoslovakia, Baník Ostrava. This made European newspapers notice them. Sadly, they lost the away match and were out of the Cup.

Orduspor was later moved down to the Second Division. But their fans wanted them back in the First Division. After two seasons, they were promoted again! They played three more seasons in the top league before being moved down again.

The club has played in different leagues over the years. Since 2005, they have been trying to get back into the Turkish Super League. The club's leaders want to build a strong team. They also want to find young talented players. Their goal is to make Orduspor famous not just in Turkey, but also in Europe.

Orduspor's Home Stadium

Orduspor plays its home games at the 19 Eylül Stadium. The stadium's name comes from the date Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkey, visited Ordu. That was on September 19.

The stadium is in the middle of the city. It has open and grand stands for fans. More stands were added later, making the stadium bigger. It can now hold about 12,000 people.

The 19 Eylül Stadium is well-equipped. It has special areas for VIPs, disabled fans, and visiting teams. There are also medical rooms, a press room, and meeting rooms.

The playing field is made of natural grass. It is 68 meters wide and 105 meters long. It is known as one of the best fields in its league. Orduspor leases the stadium for 10 years. The club has added advertising boards to help earn money from sponsors. They are also working to add lights so night matches can be played.
