You can explore walking and hiking trails, visit a nature center, or enjoy picnic areas. There's also a lodge and spots for cross-country skiing and sledding when it snows.

Park History: From Quarries to Park

The land where Oregon Ridge Park now stands has an interesting past. In the 1800s, a man named John Merryman owned this area.

Old Quarries and Their New Use

The park was built on the site of old Goethite (iron ore) and marble quarries. These quarries were active way back in the 1830s. Over time, one of the quarries filled up with water. For many years, this water-filled quarry was a popular swimming spot. It even had a sandy beach!

Skiing in the Past

In the 1960s, Oregon Ridge Park was used for downhill skiing. People would come to ski down the slopes. However, the weather in the region became warmer. It also cost a lot of money to make artificial snow. Because of these reasons, downhill skiing was no longer practical at the park. You can still see parts of the old ski lifts today. The main ski slope is now used as a seating area for outdoor concerts.

Park Expansion

In 1990, the park grew even bigger. It acquired a new section called the Merryman Tract. This area includes the valley of the Baisman Run. This expansion helped the park stretch further south from its original size.
