About the Orland River
The Orland River is mostly a tidal river. This means its water levels rise and fall with the ocean's tides, just like a bay or an ocean shore. When you go further upstream, away from the ocean, this same river is called the Narramissic River.
Where the River Flows
The Orland River begins near the village of Orland. From there, it flows south. It eventually reaches the Eastern Channel of the Penobscot River. This meeting point is close to Verona Island, which is about 8 miles (13 km) upstream from where Penobscot Bay begins.
Fun on the River: Orland River Day
Every year in June, the community celebrates Orland River Day. This special day is full of fun activities for everyone!
