Orly Levy-Abekasis (born November 11, 1973) is an Israeli politician. She used to be a model and a TV host. Orly Levy-Abekasis served as a member of the Knesset, which is like Israel's parliament. She first joined the Knesset in 2009. She also served as a government minister, helping communities.
Levy-Abekasis focused on social issues and making sure everyone had fair economic chances. She followed in her father's footsteps by entering politics.
About Orly Levy-Abekasis
Orly Levy-Abekasis was born in Beit She'an, Israel. She comes from a Moroccan Jewish family. She is one of twelve children. Her father, David Levy, was a well-known politician who served as Israel's Foreign Affairs Minister.
She served in the Israeli Air Force during her military service. Later, she studied law at the IDC Herzliya college.
Orly Levy-Abekasis is married to Lior Abekasis. They have four children. They live in a kibbutz called Mesilot. Her brother, Jackie, was the mayor of Beit She'an.
Her Journey in Politics
Orly Levy-Abekasis began her political career in 2009. She was elected to the Knesset as part of the Yisrael Beiteinu party. During her first time in the Knesset, she was a Deputy Speaker of the Knesset. She also led the Committee on the Rights of the Child. This committee works to protect and support children.
She was re-elected in 2013 and continued to lead the Committee on the Rights of the Child. In 2015, she was a top candidate for the Yisrael Beiteinu party again.
In 2016, she decided to leave Yisrael Beiteinu. She felt that social issues needed more attention in the government. She became an independent member of the Knesset in 2017.
In 2018, she announced plans to start her own political party. In December 2018, her new party was named Gesher. This name was a tribute to a party her father had founded earlier.
In the April 2019 elections, her new party did not win enough votes to get a seat. However, a new government could not be formed, so another election was called for September. For the September 2019 elections, Gesher joined forces with the Labor Party. Orly Levy-Abekasis returned to the Knesset after this alliance won seats.
In May 2020, she became the head of a new government department. This was the Ministry for Community Empowerment and Advancement. She worked to help communities across Israel.
She was re-elected to the Knesset in 2021 as part of the Likud party. In the 2022 elections, she did not win enough votes to keep her seat in the Knesset.

In 2023, Orly Levy-Abekasis took part in the Israeli TV show Rokdim Im Kokhavim, which is like "Dancing with the Stars." She was the eleventh couple to be eliminated from the competition.
