Oropesa is a town in Spain, located in the province of Toledo. About 2,600 people live here. Oropesa is well-known for its amazing castle.
The castle was built in 1402. Later, in 1930, it became a special hotel called a Parador Nacional. This means it's a hotel run by the Spanish government, often in a historic building. The castle used to be the home of an important noble family from Toledo. One famous person from this family was Francisco de Toledo, Count of Oropesa. He became the Viceroy of Peru, which was like being a governor representing the King of Spain in a faraway land.
Every April, Oropesa hosts a fun event called "Jornadas Medievales". This means "Medieval Days". It's a festival that celebrates the town's history and its famous castle.
What's in the Name?
The name Oropesa is very old. It's hard to know exactly where it came from. Most people think it comes from an even older name, Otobesa. This name was used before the Romans came to Spain.
Medieval Festival
The "Jornadas Medievales" is a big event in Oropesa. It brings the town's history to life. During this festival, you can see people dressed in medieval clothes.
