The Story of Orson Rogers

Orson Rogers, who the house is named after, was born in Middletown, Vermont in 1814. In the late 1830s, he and his wife, Mary, moved. They traveled by wagon from Vermont to the Marengo, Illinois area. Orson's parents also came with them on this journey.

Rogers first settled in a town he liked called Coral. In the 1840s, many Native American settlements were in this area. The Rogers family was among the first white settlers in the Marengo area. Orson Rogers built the very first log cabin schoolhouse there. He also taught lessons in that school. In the 1850s, he was a smart farmer. He bought the new and helpful McCormick Reapers for his farm.
