Osama Hawsawi (born March 31, 1984) is a former Saudi Arabian footballer. He played as a central defender, which is a player who helps protect the goal.

Osama started his career at Al-Wehda. He then spent most of his playing time with Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli. He won many important titles with these clubs. These included five Pro League titles and several cups.

He was the first Saudi player to play in the Belgian Pro League. Osama also played for the Saudi Arabia national team 138 times. He was the captain of the team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He also played in three AFC Asian Cup tournaments.

Osama's Club Career

Osama Hawsawi played for several football clubs during his career. He started at his hometown club, then moved to bigger teams. He even played in Europe for a short time.

Starting at Al-Wehda

Osama began his professional football journey at Al-Wehda Club. He quickly became a key player in the main team. He was known for his strong defense.

Playing for Al-Hilal

After playing 59 games for Al-Wehda, Osama joined Al-Hilal. At Al-Hilal, he was a regular player and became the team's captain. He helped Al-Hilal win seven titles. These included three league titles and four Crown Prince Cups.

Time in Belgium with Anderlecht

In April 2012, Osama signed a two-year deal with Anderlecht in Belgium. This made him the only Saudi Arabian national team player in Europe at that time. He was also the first Saudi player to join Anderlecht and play in the Belgian league.

However, his time there was short. He only played one game for the club. He described this period as "forgettable" because he did not get much playing time.

Returning Home to Al-Ahli

In November 2012, Osama left Belgium and returned to Saudi Arabia. He joined Al-Ahli. He played many games for Al-Ahli and continued to be a strong defender.

Second Time with Al-Hilal

In 2016, Osama went back to Al-Hilal. In his first season back, he helped the team win the Saudi King's Cup and the Saudi Professional League. The next season, he helped Al-Hilal win another league title. They also reached the finals of the 2017 AFC Champions League.

Back to Al-Wehda and Retirement

On August 23, 2018, Osama returned to his first club, Al-Wehda. He played 12 more games there. On December 26, 2018, Osama Hawsawi announced that he was retiring from football. He shared this news on his social media.

Osama's International Career

Osama Hawsawi was a very important player for the Saudi Arabia national team. He was the team's captain for many years.

He played for his country in the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup. He was also part of the Saudi team at the FIFA World Youth Championship. He was called up for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.

In June 2018, he was chosen to play for Saudi Arabia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He was the captain for all three matches his team played in the tournament. He scored seven goals for his country during his international career.
