Osama Abdulrzag Hawsawi (born on March 31, 1984) is a former Saudi Arabian footballer. He was a strong central defender, which means he played in the middle of the defense to stop opponents from scoring.
Osama Hawsawi spent most of his career playing for two big clubs in Saudi Arabia: Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli. He won many important trophies with these teams. He was also the first Saudi player to play in the Belgian Pro League, a top football league in Belgium.
Hawsawi was a very important player for the Saudi Arabia national football team. He played 138 games for his country between 2006 and 2018. He even led the team as captain in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He also played in three AFC Asian Cup tournaments and helped his team finish second in 2007.

Starting Out at Al-Wehda
Osama Hawsawi began his professional football career at Al-Wehda Club. He quickly became a regular player for the team. He was known for his strong defense.
Becoming a Star at Al-Hilal
After playing 59 games for Al-Wehda, Hawsawi moved to Al-Hilal. At Al-Hilal, he became a key player and was even chosen as the team's captain. He helped Al-Hilal win seven major titles. These included three league titles and four Crown Prince Cups.
A Short Time in Europe: Anderlecht
In April 2012, Hawsawi signed a two-year contract with Anderlecht, a famous club in Belgium. This was a big moment because he became the first Saudi Arabian player to play in the Belgian league. He was also the only Saudi national team player playing in Europe at that time. However, his time at Anderlecht was short. He only played one game for the club. He later said it was a "forgettable" experience because he didn't get much playing time.
Returning Home to Al-Ahli
In November 2012, Hawsawi decided to return to Saudi Arabia. He joined Al-Ahli. He played many games for Al-Ahli and continued to be a strong defender.
More Success with Al-Hilal
In 2016, Osama Hawsawi returned to Al-Hilal. He quickly helped them win more trophies. In his first season back, Al-Hilal won the Saudi King's Cup and the Saudi Professional League. The next season, he helped them win the league title again. They also reached the finals of the 2017 AFC Champions League, which is a big tournament for clubs in Asia.
Back to Where It Started: Al-Wehda
On August 23, 2018, Osama Hawsawi signed with his first club, Al-Wehda. He joined them for free after his contract with Al-Hilal ended.

Osama Hawsawi was the captain of the Saudi Arabia national football team. He played in many important matches for his country. He was part of the Saudi team in the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup and the FIFA World Youth Championship. He also played in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
He scored some important goals for Saudi Arabia. For example, on May 29, 2010, he scored a goal against Spain. This goal put Saudi Arabia ahead 1-0 in that game.
