Oscar Baylón Chacón (born 1929 – died August 10, 2020) was a Mexican politician. He was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). He served as a Senator and also as Governor of Baja California.
Early Life and Education
Oscar Baylón Chacón studied to become an agronomist. An agronomist is a scientist who studies soil and crops to help improve farming. He graduated from the "Hermanos Escobar" School of Agriculture in Ciudad Juárez.
After his studies, he moved to Baja California. There, he began his career in public service.
Starting His Political Journey
Oscar Baylón Chacón started his political journey in Baja California. He first worked as a director of public works for the territory. This meant he helped manage important building projects.
From 1959 to 1962, he served as the municipal president of Tecate. This role is similar to being a mayor, leading the city's government. He also worked as the director of land registry.
Later, from 1965 to 1968, he was a deputy congressperson for Baja California. This meant he represented the people in the local government. He also held an important administrative job as the chief clerk of the government.
Serving as Governor
In 1976, Oscar Baylón Chacón was elected as a Senator of the Republic. He served in this national role until 1982.
On January 6, 1989, he was appointed Governor of Baja California. He took over from Xicoténcatl Leyva Mortera.
During his nine months as governor, he focused on important projects. He mainly worked on improving the water supply for the main cities in the state. These projects helped ensure people had enough water.
