A Grandfather's Secret
At first, Charlie Spinner, who is twelve, worries about his grandpa Oscar. Oscar seems to forget things often. He burns food and lets the bath overflow. So, Charlie isn't too excited about family visits.
But during one visit, Charlie notices strange things. Oscar easily solves really hard crossword puzzles. Charlie also finds a super modern digital assistant in Oscar's coat. This doesn't fit with someone who is forgetful!
When Charlie asks Oscar about it, Oscar tells him the truth. Oscar has been a secret agent for MI5 for over 30 years! MI5 is like the British secret service. He kept it a secret to keep his family safe.
Now that Charlie knows, Oscar asks him for help. They work together on a very dangerous mission called "Operation Bear Trap." This mission lasts for the first seven episodes. This is how the old and young Spinner join forces. They fight against international crime and spying.
New Missions and Challenges
The second big case starts in episode eight. At first, it seems to be about companies stealing ideas from each other. But soon, it becomes much more serious. It turns out someone is trying to blackmail the British Government!
An unexpected person kidnaps Oscar during this mission. They try to make him join their side. Charlie and Oscar must use all their skills to stop this new threat.
Meet the Characters
The Spinner Family
Charlie Spinner (Eddie Cooper) is a 12-year-old boy. He has a very smart brain. This is super important for his secret work with MI5.
Oscar Spinner (David Swift) is Charlie's grandfather. He acts like he's forgetful so no one finds out his secret. But he is actually very intelligent. He is usually happy and charming. However, he gets really angry and worried if Charlie gets into trouble.
Alan Spinner (Owen Brenman) is Oscar's son and Charlie's father. Alan is very strict. He often gets upset about Charlie's school grades. He doesn't realize his own father is a spy. He truly believes Oscar is becoming forgetful.
Carol Spinner (Dido Miles) is Charlie's mother. She always supports Charlie when Alan gets mad at him. As a teacher, she knows Charlie has many talents and is very smart.
Deborah Spinner (Danielle Calvert) is Charlie's older sister. She treats Charlie like a little kid and finds him annoying. They argue about almost everything. The only thing they agree on is their strict father. Deborah secretly likes Charlie's best friend, VJ.
Charlie's Friends
Charlie has two best friends, VJ and Willoughby. They are very different from each other.
Willoughby (Robert Timmins) is a really good student. He can be a bit unsure of himself and sometimes a little strange. He's kind of a brainy kid.
VJ (Wahlid Choglay) is a cool, smooth, and confident boy. He is 13, but he acts like he's much older. He always tries to make Charlie look good. But Charlie's dad usually doesn't agree with VJ's ideas.
MI5 Agents
George and Palmer are two important people at MI5. They are friends with Oscar.
George (Louis Mahoney) is Oscar's assistant and driver. They have worked together for many years. George has helped Oscar get out of tricky situations more than once.
Palmer (Michael Fenton-Stevens) is in charge of MI5. He doesn't like it when people don't follow his orders. He often gets annoyed when Oscar comes up with new ideas. Palmer also has many secret plans of his own.
