Osvaldo Jeanty (born August 1, 1983) is a Canadian basketball coach and a former professional basketball player. He was a talented guard on the court.

He is known as one of the best players ever for the Carleton University Ravens men's basketball team. He is even in their Hall of Fame! Osvaldo was named the top male athlete in Canadian university sports in 2006. He was also the best university basketball player in both 2006 and 2007. He even played for Canada's national men's team.

After university, he played professional basketball for six years. He played in countries like Germany, Morocco, and Romania. He also played in Canada's NBL league. Osvaldo stopped playing professionally in November 2013.

Playing Basketball in University

Osvaldo Jeanty was born in Belle-Rivière, Haiti. He went to Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. There, he studied business.

In 2006, he won a big award. He was named the 2006 CIS male athlete of the year. This award recognizes the best male university athlete in Canada. He was one of only two Carleton Ravens athletes to ever win it.

Osvaldo helped the Carleton Ravens win the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championship every year he played. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in four of those five championship games.

During the 2005–06 season, he led the Ravens to their fourth straight national championship. He was the team's top scorer that season. He scored 326 points, which was about 14.8 points per game. He was also chosen for the CIS All-Star team. Plus, he was named the MVP of the "Final 10" tournament. He won almost every major award that season!

Playing Basketball Professionally

Osvaldo started his professional career in the 2007–08 season. He played for the Giants Nördlingen team in Germany. He helped his team win the ProA championship. This win moved them up to the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). The BBL is Germany's top basketball league. He was also recognized as one of the best players in the ProA league.

He signed another contract with the Giants in June 2008. In the 2008-09 BBL season, he played 32 games. He averaged 13.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

For the 2009–10 season, Osvaldo first played in Morocco. Then he briefly returned to Nördlingen. After that, he joined CS Gaz Metan Medias in Romania. In January 2010, he came back to the German BBL. He joined the Gießen 46ers team for the rest of that season. During the 2009–10 season, he averaged 13.1 points and 2.3 rebounds. He also made 40.7% of his three-point shots.

For the 2010–11 season, Osvaldo stayed in the German BBL. He signed a one-year contract with BBC Bayreuth. This contract was later extended until 2012. In November 2012, Osvaldo left Germany. He went to play for the London Lightning in the National Basketball League of Canada. He played only half a season with the Lightning. He averaged 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. Osvaldo then returned to Germany. He played for the Mitteldeutscher Basketball club in the BBL. In the 2012–2013 season, he averaged 7.5 points per game.

He announced he was retiring from professional basketball in November 2013. On October 16, 2014, Osvaldo Jeanty was honored. He was inducted into the Carleton University Ravens Hall of Fame.

Playing for Team Canada

Osvaldo also played for the Canadian national men's basketball team. He went on a European tour with them in the summer of 2006. In 2007, he helped Team Canada finish seventh at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Life After Playing Basketball

After his basketball career, Osvaldo Jeanty worked for a company in Ottawa. This company offered financial services. He also stayed involved with basketball. Osvaldo and his former Carleton teammate, Willy Manigat, run the Premier Hoops Academy.

Osvaldo was the head coach for the Cégep de l’Outaouais' basketball team from 2014 to 2016. Then, he joined the coaching staff at Carleton University. He was an assistant coach for the men's basketball team from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, he became the head coach of the CEBL's Ottawa Blackjacks. His contract ended after the 2020 season. Osvaldo Jeanty is now a Financial planner for the Royal Bank of Canada.
