A Look Back in Time
Othello has an interesting past. Long ago, there were three taverns in the area. One of these was inside the Ewing-Bacon House, also called Resurrection Hall. This house was very old, with parts built in the early 1700s. A man named Charles Ewing gave it the name Resurrection Hall.
A Stop on the Underground Railroad
Othello, along with nearby Springtown, played an important role in history. These communities were "stations" on the Underground Railroad. This was a secret network of safe houses and routes. It helped enslaved African Americans escape to freedom in the years before the American Civil War.
Othello's Post Office
Even though Othello is a small place, it once had its own post office. It operated for a short time, from April 1897 until November 1906. Despite this, Othello still appears on many maps today.
