The Otothyropsis polyodon is a special kind of armored catfish. It lives in the rivers of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. This fish is quite small, growing to about 3.7 cm (1.5 in) long. It was first described by scientists in 2013.

About Its Name

The name Otothyropsis polyodon has a special meaning. "Poly" means "many," and "odon" means "tooth." So, "polyodon" means "many teeth." This fish was given this name because it has more teeth than other similar fish in its group.

Where It Lives

This little armored catfish makes its home in the Rio Verde. The Rio Verde is a smaller river that flows into the bigger Rio Paraná basin. This area is in the country of Brazil, in South America.
