Out There is a fun TV show about a boy named Reilly. It's a drama series made for kids and teens. The show was created by Sesame Workshop and Noggin LLC. It was shown on the Noggin channel as part of its nighttime block called The N.

The story of Out There is about an American high school boy, Reilly (Douglas Smith). He moves from Connecticut in the United States to Australia. He goes to live with his aunt and uncle. They own a nature reserve and a vet clinic.

In Australia, Reilly makes new friends. He meets Aggie (Jade Ewen), who works with him. He also becomes friends with Miller (Richard Wilson), a local boy. And there's Fiona (Molly McCaffrey), the girl who lives next door.

The show first aired on May 23, 2003. It was part of a special event called "Summer in The N." The first four episodes were shown together. The rest of the first season aired on Fridays. The show had two seasons and 26 episodes in total. The last new episode was on July 1, 2004.

Making the Show

The idea for Out There came from Sesame Workshop and Noggin. Both companies are based in New York. At first, the show was only going to be about an American story. It was set in New York.

Later, the show was offered to TV channels in other countries. The ABC in Australia and the BBC in Britain were interested. They wanted the story to feel more local to their viewers. So, the creators changed the idea.

Reilly, the main character, became an American boy living in Australia. A new character, Aggie, was added for British viewers. Both the ABC and the BBC helped pay for the show.

The show's first name was Two Down Under. This name meant two outsiders moving to Australia. Out There was made for kids aged 9 to 13. It was called a "tween drama."

Claire Henderson, one of the show's producers, said it was easy to show American and British characters. But it was harder to show Australia in a way that felt real to Australian kids. She wanted to make sure Australian kids could relate to the show.

Story of the Series

Season 1 Adventures

In the first season, Reilly moves from Connecticut to Australia. He works at a vet clinic with his aunt Ellen (Genevieve Hegney) and uncle Jonathon (David Roberts). An intern from England, Aggie Thackery (Jade Ewen), also works there. At first, Aggie finds Reilly a bit stubborn. But she starts to like him.

Reilly also becomes friends with Miller McKee (Richard Wilson). Miller is a funny local boy. Fiona McDaniels (Molly McCaffrey), the girl next door, also works at the clinic. In this season, Miller tries to get Aggie to like him. But she doesn't feel the same way yet.

Season 2 Changes

In the second season, Reilly goes back to the United States. He is not in the rest of the show. A new intern named Tom (Cody Kasch) arrives. He says he is from Texas and wants a fresh start. But it turns out he was pretending to be an intern. He almost gets sent back to America.

This season also brings in new characters. Alice (Ashleigh Murray) is the captain of Aggie's Netball team. She secretly likes Miller. Gregor Krauss (Sean Kennedy) is Aggie's boyfriend for a short time. And Miller finds a stray dog, who he names Hendrix.
