The Outer Holm of Skaw is a very small, empty island located off the northeast coast of Whalsay. Whalsay is one of the many islands that make up the Shetland Islands in Scotland. An "islet" is just a fancy word for a tiny island, and a "rock outlier" means it's mostly a rocky piece of land sticking out from the sea.
Where is Outer Holm of Skaw?
The Outer Holm of Skaw is not very tall, reaching only about 14 feet (4.3 m) (which is about the height of a two-story house). It sits about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) north of a place called Skaw Taing on the island of Whalsay.
There's another small island nearby called the Inner Holm of Skaw. This island is a bit taller, at 32 feet (9.8 m) high. The Inner Holm of Skaw is located right between the Outer Holm of Skaw and the main island of Whalsay. So, if you were looking from Whalsay, you would see Inner Holm first, then Outer Holm further out.
