Outingdale is a small place in El Dorado County, California. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it is not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it is managed by the county.

Outingdale is located near the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of a place called Aukum. The area sits at an elevation of 1,624 feet (495 meters) above sea level. In the past, Outingdale was also known by other names, like Mars and Outingdale Resort.

History of Outingdale

Outingdale was started in 1928. It was first planned as a special place for people to visit and relax. This type of place is often called a resort community.

The original area covered 680 acres of land. More than half of this land was set aside for everyone to use. This shared space was likely for fun activities and outdoor recreation.

Life in Outingdale Today

Today, Outingdale is home to about 150 people. It is a quiet community where residents live close to nature.

Water Supply and Challenges

The people of Outingdale get their water from the Cosumnes River. This river's water comes mostly from melted snow in the mountains. So, the community relies a lot on how much snow falls each winter.

If there isn't much snow, it can lead to a drought. A drought means there is not enough water. During a serious drought in 2021, Outingdale faced big water problems. Water had to be brought to the community by trucks to make sure everyone had enough.
