Owens Wells is a small place in Holmes County, Mississippi, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government.
Owens Wells is located close to Mississippi Highway 12. It is about 6 miles (10 km) east of Lexington. It is also about 8 miles (13 km) west of Durant. This community used to be a stop for trains on the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad.
History of Owens Wells
Owens Wells was once famous for its natural mineral spring and a special place called a resort. A resort is like a hotel where people go to relax and have fun.
The Mineral Spring Resort
A large hotel was built near the spring. Many people from the Delta area would visit this resort. The hotel could host up to 150 guests at a time. People believed the spring water had special powers. They thought it could help with many health problems. The spring was still producing its special water in 1915.
Post Office and Politics
A post office served the community of Owens Wells. It was open from 1889 until 1919. This means people could send and receive mail there.
In 1910, Edmond Noel, who was the Governor of Mississippi, visited Owens Wells. He gave a speech there. In his speech, he talked about the things he had done as governor up to that time.
