Oxford is a small, quiet place in La Plata County, Colorado, United States. It's an unincorporated community, which means it's not officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Oxford is located on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation.

A Look Back: Oxford's History

Oxford has a simple but interesting past. It officially became a recognized place on maps on November 3, 1909. This happened when a company called The Oxford Land and Townsite Co. recorded the town's layout. They did this right next to the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad tracks, which were important for travel and trade back then.

The Oxford Post Office

Before the town was even mapped out, a post office opened in Oxford in 1908. This was a big deal because it meant people living there could send and receive mail easily. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1954.
