Pacifica State Beach is a beautiful beach in Pacifica, California. It's shaped like a crescent moon and is about 0.75 miles long. You can find it in San Mateo County, right off Highway 1.

This beach is one of the best places for beginner surfing in the San Francisco area. Surfers often call it Linda Mar Beach. This is because it's located in front of Pacifica's Linda Mar neighborhood. The City of Pacifica helps manage this State Beach. There's even a Taco Bell restaurant right by the beach. Many people say it's the most beautiful Taco Bell in the world!

Protecting Wildlife at Pacifica State Beach

Pacifica State Beach is home to a special bird called the western snowy plover. This small shorebird is considered a threatened species. This means it needs protection to help its population grow.

Restoring the Beach and Its Habitat

Between 1989 and 2005, a big project took place at Pacifica State Beach. The goal was to restore the beach and its natural habitat. This project also helped control floods from San Pedro Creek.

In 2002, a special partnership helped buy some land near the ocean. This land included two houses. The houses were removed to help restore the beach and the nearby estuary. An estuary is where a river meets the sea.

This restoration project was very successful. In 2005, it was named a "Top Restored Beach" by a national group. Many different groups worked together on this project. These included local communities, state and federal agencies, scientists, and citizens.

The project helped protect the shoreline. It also added more sand to the beach. Most importantly, it restored habitats for four threatened and endangered species. The beach also became more welcoming for visitors. New parking lots, trails, and restrooms were added. Over 1 million people visit Pacifica State Beach every year.
