Packwaukee is a small town located in Marquette County, Wisconsin, in the United States. In the year 2000, about 2,574 people lived there. Some smaller areas, called unincorporated communities, like Buffalo Shore Estates and Packwaukee, are also part of this town.
The town of Packwaukee was named after a Winnebago Native American Chief named Packwaukee. It was first planned out in 1850, and a post office was opened that same year. The name "Packwaukee" has different meanings depending on the language. In the Ojibwe language, it means "shallow land." In the Potawatomi language, it means "it is shallow." Another idea is that it comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "forest opening." In the Menominee language, it is called Paehkuahkiw, which means "small round hill."

A railroad line was built in 1881. This line connected a quarry (where stone is dug out) called Montello Granite Co. to Packwaukee. It also linked to the Wisconsin Central Railroad. In 1884, a train station, called a depot, was moved to Packwaukee. It was a building about 20 feet by 40 feet. It had a waiting room for passengers, a room for the agent who sold tickets, and a small room for luggage. Sadly, this depot burned down very early in the morning on January 11, 1907.
