About Paddock Wood Brewing Co.
Paddock Wood Brewing Co. started small and grew into a well-known brewery. They focus on making quality beer.
How It All Started
Paddock Wood began in 1995. At first, they sold supplies for people who wanted to make beer at home. This was a mail-order business, meaning customers ordered supplies that were sent to them. They sold things like grain and yeast.
In 2000, the company started making their own beer kits. Customers would buy these kits, add yeast, and finish making the beer at home.
A big change happened in 2004. Paddock Wood wanted to become a full brewery. At that time, rules in Saskatchewan said that breweries had to sell their beer only where it was made. Paddock Wood worked with the government to change this rule. The rule was changed, and Paddock Wood became a licensed microbrewery. A microbrewery is a small brewery that makes a limited amount of beer.
Making Great Beer
Paddock Wood makes a lot of beer. In 2011, they produced about 3,000 hectolitres of beer. A hectolitre is a large unit of liquid, equal to 100 litres. This amount of beer is like filling 500,000 bottles! This was a big increase from what they made in 2007.
The CEO, Steve Cavan, says they try to follow the German purity law. This old law from Germany says that beer should only be made with water, barley, and hops. Paddock Wood does not use things like rice, corn, or extra chemicals in their beer. This helps them make pure and natural beer.
Paddock Wood sends their beer to restaurants and stores. You can find their draught beer (beer from a tap) and bottled beer all over Saskatchewan.
