Patrick Francis Joyce (born May 31, 1923 – died July 27, 2000) was a talented actor. He appeared in many films and television shows during his career.

Patrick Joyce was born in Trieste, Italy. His mother, Eileen Schaurek, was the sister of the famous writer James Joyce. After his father passed away, Patrick and his two older sisters, Nora and Bozena, moved to Ireland with their mother.

Patrick Joyce acted in almost 90 different movies and TV shows. He is best known for playing Tommy Deakin in the British TV show Coronation Street. This show is a "soap opera," which means it tells ongoing stories about the lives of its characters. He was on Coronation Street from 1968 to 1974.

Later in his career, he also played John Royle in another popular British soap opera, EastEnders. He appeared in EastEnders in the early 1990s.

Early Acting Career

Patrick Joyce started his acting career in the 1950s. His first movie was The Cruel Sea in 1953. Even though his role was not officially listed, it marked the start of his long career.

During the 1950s, he acted in several other films. These included The Girl in the Picture, The Steel Bayonet, and Dublin Nightmare. In the 1960s, he began to get more roles on television. He appeared in shows like The Adventures of Robin Hood and No Hiding Place.

Becoming Well-Known

After his time on Coronation Street, Patrick Joyce became very well-known in the United Kingdom. In 1973, he was in two episodes of Crown Court. He also appeared in the movie Never Mind the Quality Feel the Width.

From 1964 to 1976, he played many different characters in the police drama Z-Cars. This show was about the daily lives of police officers. In 1980, he was in an episode of The Enigma Files.

Later Roles and Final Performance

In the 1980s, Patrick Joyce continued to act in popular TV shows. Some of these included Minder, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, and The Bill. Soon after, he got the role of John Royle in EastEnders.

His very last acting performance was in the 1999 film Alice in Wonderland. Patrick Joyce passed away in London on July 27, 2000, at the age of 77. He died from a stroke.
