Paige is a small community in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. It's not officially a city, but it has its own post office with the ZIP code 78659.

How Paige Got Its Name

Paige, Texas, was named after a man named Norman Paige. He was a civil engineer who helped plan the route for the Houston and Texas Central Railway.

A Look at Paige's History

Paige was started in 1872, right next to the new Houston and Texas Central Railway. The town got its own post office in 1874. A few years later, in 1876, the train station was moved about three miles east to where it is now.

In 1877, a person named Fedor Soder came to Paige. He sold many pieces of land to German settlers. He also opened a store and a cotton gin. A cotton gin is a machine that separates cotton fibers from their seeds. This was important because a lot of cotton was grown in the area.

Paige grew quickly! By 1884, about 350 people lived there. Just two years later, in 1886, the population jumped to 500. The town had many businesses, including a broom factory, a creamery (where dairy products are made), a pickle factory, and seven cotton gins. Paige became a busy place for shipping goods like butter, cattle, wood, cotton, eggs, hogs, and potatoes.

The town got a bank and telephone service in 1914. After that, the number of people living in Paige slowly went down until the 1960s or 1970s.
