Paige Mackenzie (born February 8, 1983) is an American professional golfer. She used to play on the LPGA Tour, which is a top professional golf tour for women.
Early Life and High School Golf
Paige Mackenzie grew up in Yakima, Washington. She went to Eisenhower High School and graduated in 2001. During all four years of high school, she was chosen as a first-team All-Big-9 player, which means she was one of the best golfers in her area.
She was also named the top girl golfer in 2000 by two different golf groups: the Washington Junior Golf Association and the Pacific Northwest Golf Association. By the time she finished high school, Paige had placed in the top 10 in five national golf tournaments and even won one championship!
College Golf Star
Paige continued her amazing golf journey at the University of Washington in Seattle. She graduated in 2006 with a degree in business. While in college, she finished in the top 10 in 22 different tournaments. This set a record for the Huskies golf team!
She earned many awards as an amateur (someone who plays sports for fun, not money). For example, she tied for 13th place at the 2005 U.S. Women's Open, which is a very big tournament. She was also named the Pacific Northwest Golf Association's Women's Player of the Year in 2005. That same year, she won both the match play and stroke play parts of the Trans National Championship. In 2006, Paige won the Pac-10 and NCAA West Regional championships. She was even ranked as the number one amateur golfer in the country by Golfweek magazine.
After graduating, Paige helped the U.S. team win the 2006 Curtis Cup at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon. She played really well, winning three out of four of her matches. A week later, she had the best score in the stroke play part of the U.S. Women's Amateur at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. Her last tournament as an amateur was an LPGA Tour event, the Safeway Classic in Portland, where she tied for 45th place.
Becoming a Pro Golfer
Paige Mackenzie became a professional golfer in August 2006. This means she started playing golf for money. She played in a few LPGA Tour events because sponsors invited her. She also played on the Cactus Tour in Arizona that fall.
She then earned her spot on the 2007 LPGA Tour by doing well in a qualifying tournament in December 2006. In 2008, she finished in the top 25 in three different LPGA tournaments. She also won the Sharp Open on the Cactus Tour that year.
In April 2012, the National Association of Professional Women teamed up with Paige. She became their "Athletic Spokeswoman" and even appeared in TV commercials for them across the country.
Team Play
Paige Mackenzie has also played for her country in team golf events.
