The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship is a big golf tournament for women. It happens every year in Rogers, Arkansas. This city is in the northwest part of Arkansas. Golfers play this tournament at the Pinnacle Country Club. The first tournament was held in 2007.
Big companies help make this tournament happen. Procter & Gamble (P&G), which makes many everyday products, became a main sponsor in 2008. Later, Walmart, a very large company based nearby, also became a big sponsor. Since 2011, Walmart has been the main sponsor, with P&G helping out.
Tournament History
The first tournament in 2007 was a bit unusual. Bad weather meant that only one day of golf could be played. Because of this, it was not counted as an "official" tournament by the LPGA. An official LPGA event needs at least 36 holes (two full rounds) to be completed.
Stacy Lewis, who was a college golfer at the University of Arkansas at the time, was leading after the first day. She was named the unofficial winner. Since she was still an amateur (not a professional), she didn't get any prize money. The prize money for the professional golfers was also cut in half.
Here are the different names the tournament has had over the years:
- 2007: LPGA NW Arkansas Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons
- 2008–2009: P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons
- 2010: P&G NW Arkansas Championship Presented by Walmart
- 2011–Present: Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G
